Eat soft foods

Apply ice packs

Avoid extreme jaw movements (like wide yawning, loud singing, gum chewing)

Use techniques for relaxing and reducing stress

Practice gentle jaw stretching and relaxing exercises that may increase jaw movement

Pain medications – short-term use of pain medicines and/or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may give some relief.

Stabilization Splints

An oral appliance, sometimes called a bite guard is the most widely used treatment for TMJ. Studies of effectiveness in providing pain relief however, have been inconclusive.
